Stop abusive bots before they reach your origin

ArxLayer raises the cost for scrapers, credential-stuffing tools, and abusive crawlers with self-hosted JavaScript proof-of-work challenges, while verified good bots pass through. Enforcement happens at the edge, in memory, before traffic touches your application.

The problem

Automated traffic doesn't behave like a person

Scrapers, stuffing tools, and unwanted AI crawlers hit your exposed surfaces around the clock, and most blunt blocking either misses them or hurts real users and the bots you want.

Scrapers & abusive crawlers

Automated clients harvest content, pricing, and inventory at machine speed, and AI crawlers add load you never asked for.

Credential stuffing

Stolen-credential lists get replayed against your login at scale, hunting for accounts that reuse a password.

Good bots get caught too

Search and preview crawlers you want should never be blocked by a user-agent guess that anyone can forge.

What you get

Cost on automation, a clear path for the bots you want

ArxLayer makes automated abuse expensive without forcing a CAPTCHA on every visitor, and confirms the crawlers you trust by where they actually come from.

Self-hosted PoW challenges

A JavaScript proof-of-work challenge makes each automated request cost compute and bars clients that don't execute the page. It is not a human CAPTCHA and not browser fingerprinting.

Verified-crawler allowlist

Trusted crawlers are confirmed by reverse-DNS and forward-confirm lookups, never by user-agent alone, so spoofed crawlers don't get a pass.

Cross-fleet reputation

Reputation signals shared across the edge fleet let a client that abused one surface arrive with a record at the next.

Tiered escalation

Suspicious clients escalate from a light challenge to a harder one and finally to a block, while clean traffic stays untouched.

Privacy-preserving signals

Client IPs are hashed with HMAC for reputation. Raw IPs never leave the edge, and the request path stays local and in memory.

Watch before you block

Run challenge and reputation logic in detect mode on live traffic, review what would trigger, then enforce when you're ready.

How it works

From point-and-protect to enforced

Route traffic through the edge, let clean visitors pass, and put a real cost on the clients that don't belong.

Route through the edge

Point your domain at ArxLayer Edge. Verified crawlers are allowed through and ordinary visitors pass without friction.

Challenge the unproven

Clients without a clean reputation get a self-hosted proof-of-work challenge that costs compute and stops non-browser tools.

Escalate, then block

Repeat offenders escalate to a harder challenge and a block, with hashed reputation following them across the fleet.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Are these challenges human CAPTCHAs?
No. They are self-hosted JavaScript proof-of-work challenges that cost compute and bar clients that don't execute the page. They are not human CAPTCHAs and not browser fingerprinting.
How do you avoid blocking search engines and good crawlers?
Trusted crawlers are confirmed by reverse-DNS plus forward-confirm lookups, not by user-agent, so a real crawler is allowed through while a spoofed one is not.
Will real users notice the challenge?
Most clean traffic passes without a challenge. When one is issued it runs in the page automatically, and you can run in detect mode first to see exactly what would trigger.
What happens to client IP addresses?
IPs are hashed with HMAC for reputation and the raw address never leaves the edge. The edge request path stays local and in memory.

Put a cost on the bots, not on your users

Run ArxLayer Bot Defense in detect mode, see what would challenge or block, then enforce with verified good bots still flowing.
